This purple-hued party drink from Fixture Kitchen and Social Lounge is perfect for TCU football watch parties this season – and for using up the last of this summer’s blueberries.
Dubbed The Horned Frog, the jalapeno-infused, rum-based concoction can easily be prepared in large batches to serve a crowd, which means it’s great for tailgating, too.
Fixture executive chef Ben Merritt says the light and refreshing sipper is well-suited for hot weather.
And since temperatures won’t likely cool down until at least October, he says, “It’s perfect for the first half of the season.” On that note, go Frogs!
The Horned Frog
- 3 jalapeno slices
- 1 small bunch cilantro leaves
- 3/4 ounce fresh lime juice
- 3/4 ounce blueberry simple syrup (see note)
- 1/2 ounce Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao
- 1 1/2 ounces Bacardi Superior white rum
- Splash of ginger beer
Place the jalapeno slices and cilantro leaves in a shaker tin and muddle. Add the lime juice, blueberry simple syrup, Curacao and rum. Add ice and shake well. Strain with a fine strainer into a glass over ice. Top with a splash of ginger beer. Garnish with a salted lime wheel, jalapeno slice and cilantro flower, if desired.
Note: To make simple syrup, boil equal parts sugar and water with desired amount of blueberries until sugar is dissolved. Allow to cool, strain and keep chilled.
